How to add shipping costs to Shopify POS backorders after the sale?
When you sell out-of-stock products at in-person events on Shopify POS, shipping fees should be added by selecting the "Ship" delivery method at checkout. If this option didn't appear or you forgot to add shipping fees, here's how to add shipping costs to the order via desktop after the sale.

Two ways to add shipping fees after the Shopify POS sale
Option 1: Edit the order directly on desktop
The simplest method is to edit shipping fees on each order:
- Go to your Shopify Admin on desktop, navigate to Orders
- Find the specific backorder
- Click Edit
- Under Payment, Add a shipping fee
This works best when you only have a small number of orders to update.
Option 2: Create a Shipping Fee Product
Alternatively, if there's no option to add a shipping fee, you can create a custom product:
- Follow the same steps above to find the specific backorder
- Add custom item
- Set the price to match your standard shipping rate
- Check "Item is taxable"
- Uncheck "Item is a physical product"
- Click Add item
Important note: Shipping charges are generally subject to taxes when the goods being shipped are also taxable).
