Why don't Shopify discounts work on my pre-order or subscription products?

If automatic discounts set up via your Shopify discount settings are not working for your pre-order or subscription products, you are likely missing one important setting you need to configure.

Go to the discount settings and look for the Purchase type setting. Set this to Subscription or Both to ensure that it applies to products which use selling plans (which includes both pre-orders and subscriptions).

Save your changes and check your storefront again to see the discount apply.
