How do I set up pre-orders and enable partial payment options on Shopify?

"We want to let our customers make partial payments on our pre-order products. How can I set up pre-orders and enable partial payment as a purchase option?"

Step-By-Step Guide for Setting up a Pre-order Campaign With Partial Payments on Shopify via Our Early Bird App:

  1. Under Pre-orders in our Early Bird app, create and name your new Pre-order campaign.
  2. Choose whether you want to sell as many pre-orders as possible, or only in limited quantities.
  3. If you're selling pre-orders in limited quantities, you will need to adjust the stock levels for your pre-order product and variants first before publishing your campaign.
  4. Choose I will manually manage stock levels if you're selling pre-orders in limited quantities.
  5. Under Continue selling when out of stock, choose Early Bird should automatically manage this (recommended).

If you're selling as many pre-orders as possible, Early Bird will continue to help you sell pre-orders even when your stock level goes below zero.

If you're selling pre-orders in limited quantities, Early Bird will automatically help you turn the "Pre-order Now" button to "Sold Out" when your stock level goes below zero.

Once you've paused and archived the campaign, the button will be reverted to "Add to Cart" and sell as normal.

  6. Under Schedule, choose an End date if you want the "Pre-order Now" button to automatically be toggled to "Sold Out" on a specific date and time. If you're selling made-to-order products with no limited quantities, you can leave it blank.
  7. Select your product and variants for this pre-order campaign.
  8. Select the purchase options you want to offer to customers: You can offer both pay in full AND pay a partial deposit as purchase options, or only one of the two options.
  9. Select the $ or % amount you'd like your customers to pay as their initial deposit/payment.
  10. Add an optional $ or % customizable discount.
  11. Under Pre-order fulfillment, select the expected fulfillment date you want to show to customers throughout their purchase journey. This info will be displayed on your Product page above the "Pre-order Now" button, when they add to cart, when they view cart, and at checkout.
  12. You can customize this under Display > Deferred Fulfillment Date, or Create an override for each pre-order campaign.
  13. Check your settings, save draft, and publish the campaign.

Make sure you archive the campaign when it has reached its end date, so the "Sold Out" button will revert to the normal "Add To Cart" button.

You can also pause the campaign anytime earlier than its end date and archive it to turn the Pre-order now button into the Add To Cart button.
