What happens if a customer purchases pre-order items with different deferred payment dates on Shopify?

Currently if a customer purchases multiple pre-order items all with different deferred payment due dates, Shopify's system will automatically charge all deferred payments on the soonest due date. For example, if your customer orders a t-shirt with payment due date of June 3, and a book with payment due date of June 7, both payment due dates will be due on June 3.

Shopify does this to ensure all your deferred payments are collected; reducing the risk of missed payments and potential inventory issues.

How to manage deferred payments with different due dates

With Shopify’s new Split Shipping at Checkout feature, your customer’s order will be split into separate fulfillments automatically. See our other help article here for a quick summary of their new feature, or visit Shopify's Help Centre to read the full details.
